Cambridge Arts Center

The Community Art Center is located in Cambridge MA. The after school nonprofit arts program recently expanded its lease area doubling its size and occupying the entire upper floor at the community programs portion of the building. Formerly a Polaroid factory the building was renovated in the early 90’s to serve the community needs of the local neighborhood. Heavy use and poor performance of the buildings mechanical systems prompted a capital campaign and a successful application to the EEOST for grant funding assistance.

Anderson Porter Design provided architectural design services and coordination of the scope of work for the building systems. APD worked closely with the program executive director and landlord representatives from the Cambridge Housing Authority to set the design parameters, prepare schematic design documents, specifications, and budget pricing and meet the requirements of program licensing and quality thresholds of the EEOST. APD reviewed the existing building systems and proposed design alternatives to select the best design approach.
